Assistant Curator at Media Majlis, Qatar

The Assistant Curator of the Media Majlis at Northwestern University in Qatar (NUQ) will support the Curator of Art, Media and Technology in developing and managing exhibitions, publications, and programs. Conducts curatorial research, collaborates with artists and partners, creates interpretive materials, coordinates project timelines and budgets, organizes public programs and advisory groups, and represents the Media Majlis Museum at events and meetings. Works in partnership with NUQ faculty and students on possible exhibition contributions.

  • Curatorial: Supports the development and execution of the museum's exhibitions, publications, and programs by conducting curatorial research, collaborating with artists, collectors, lenders, and partner institutions, creating and editing interpretive materials, and contributing to the overall planning and production of museum outputs under the guidance of the Curator of Art, Media and Technology.

  • Administration: supervises the project lifecycle of exhibitions by developing timelines, tracking budgets, coordinating logistics, preparing necessary agreements and forms, serving as the primary point of contact for curatorial inquiries, maintaining master calendars and databases, and assisting the Curator of Art, Media and Technology with collections-related policies, plans, procedures, and accreditation matters.

  • Coordinates public programs, hosts visiting artists and professionals, organizes Content Advisory Groups, collaborates with the Audiences and Outreach team on educational content, partners with the Registrar on collections management, represents the Media Majlis Museum at events and meetings, and assists with various reports and institutional needs.

  • Create exhibition-related texts and summaries for use by departments such as Marketing and for gallery websites and publications.

  • Maintain and update the three-year exhibitions calendar, including all deadlines and tracking all resources and materials (catalogues, websites, etc.) associated with each exhibition.

Minimum Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor's in journalism, communications, media, museum studies, curatorial studies, or similar.

  • Prior work experience with students (high school or university). 

  • Two years of experience with exhibitions (museum, gallery, archive, etc.)

  • Highly organized, with exceptional teamwork and time management skills, and high familiarity and comfort with new technology

  • Fluent in English, including museum terminology and practice experience

  • Proactive in independent work, with a high level of discretion and confidentially.

  • Ability to travel. 

Preferred Qualifications & Competencies

  • Masters in museum studies, curatorial studies, digital curation, journalism, communications, or media.

  • Four-plus years of museum or similar experience.

  • Experience in object handling storage, and digitization practices.

  • Fluently bilingual (Arabic and English).

  • Experience with curatorial research methodology.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $56,782 to $70,978 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
